The Story of Unión Ramal Santa Cruz & El Triunfo
Founded in 2001 by Profesor Cruz José Arguello Miceli, Unión Ramal Santa Cruz was established to empower local smallholder farmers in La Concordia, Chiapas. By organizing into a unified community cooperative, 492 members (including 177 women producers) gained direct market access, ensuring fair livelihoods and sustainable farming practices independent of outside intermediaries.
Their farms are uniquely situated within the buffer zones of the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve—the most biodiverse cloud forest in Mexico. Grown under dense canopy shade alongside native vegetation, the cool mountain mist, rich soils, and meticulous selective picking yield exceptional bean density and outstanding cup quality.
